JK Racing Asia Series Round 2 at Malaysia

Second round of JK Racing Asia Series scheduled during the Asian Festival of Speed from May 28-29, 2011 in Malaysia

New Delhi, May 26, 2011: This weekend, young drivers will be pitting their skills against one another for a chance to climb the top step of the podium in the JK Racing Asia Series. Races 3-6 of the JK Racing Asia Series will be held as part of the Asian Festival of Speed event on May 28-29, 2011 at Sepang International Circuit. This will be the second outing in Malaysia before the Series travels to Indonesia, China, Singapore and India.

After the completion of the first two races, held during the 2011 PETRONAS Malaysia Grand Prix, Austrian driver Lucas Auer of Eurointernational leads the championship just two points ahead of Malaysian Nabil Jeffri.

Just coming from a well deserved win in the JK Tyre Rotax Max GP Cup held in Kolhapur, Raj Bharath, the lone Indian driver on the grid is quite confident to put in a Top 10 finish in the forthcoming races at the Sepang F1 Track-Malaysia. The upcoming 4 races will give him more opportunities to pick up valuable points and also a lot more racing experience.

Raj Bharath said, “I have been training harder in the last couple of weeks physically and mentally. I have spent some time with Mr. Akbar Ebrahim on the Racing Simulators in Hyderabad and also prepared myself well by participating in the JK Tyre Rotax Max GP Cup last week and it was good to come through with a win. This has done wonders for my confidence and I now look forward to a good showing in Round 2 of the JK Racing Formula Asia Series.”

The list of Malaysian drivers include the Race 1 winner Nabil Jeffri, this season’s youngest competitor Akash Neil Nandy, two time podium finisher Afiq Ikhwan Yazid, one of two female drivers Natasha Seatter, go-kart sensation Aaron Chang and 2010 PFX graduates Irfan Ilyas, Freddie Ang and Hiqmar Danial. Both Jeffri and Yazid will hope to better their solid finishes from the last outing where the duo climbed both podiums over the Formula 1 weekend.

Currently Lucas Auer is leading in the points table. Nabil Jeffri is currently in second on the leaderboard, 2 points ahead of Afiq Yazid. Aaron Chang and Hiqmar Danial are fourth and fifth on the leaderboard, while Duvashen Padaychee, Irfan Ilyas, Natasha Seatter, Pasin Lathouras, Freddie Ang, Jimmy Antunes, Nandy Akash, Andrey Khrapov, Raj Bharath and Dylan Young are following the top five in the races.

The level of competition in the Series has increased as evidenced right from the start, with the top eight qualifiers coming in within one second of one another. There was plenty of action throughout the two races with battles all the way down the order right to the closing stages of the races, and more of the same is expected during the AFOS event.

The JK Racing Asia Series consists of 18 races spread across six rounds and acts as a support race for Formula 1 World Championship on three occasions- season opener in Malaysia, followed by Singapore and ultimately the inaugural Indian GP- ensuring great exposure for racers and teams at a global level. The remaining three rounds will be held during the Asian Festival of Speed (AFOS) in Malaysia, Indonesia and China.

JK Racing Asia Series features an ultra-modern standard specification racecar. The Formula JK Tyre Pacific is made of carbon-fibre Kevlar, which has been proven to be of the highest safety standards. The 140bhp, 1.2litre BMW engine provides a maximum engine speed of 9,250rpm with a top speed of 230km/h. The race car runs on JK tyres and these new JK spec tyres gives a better grip to the car.
